Focus on RAC2

Rac2, along with Rac1 and Rac3, belongs to a family of Rho guanosine triphosphatases (GTPases). Almost all Rho family GTPases, including the Rac family, stimulate actin polymerization within the cell – regulating changes in cytoskeletal structure affecting cell shape, migration and adhesion.

Rac2 is found exclusively in cells of hematopoietic origin and is important in their development; it controls hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell retention in bone marrow which is critical to the homeostasis of blood cell production. Mice homozygous for Rac2 deletions develop microcytic anemia with a haemoglobin drop of about 20% and enhanced haemolytic processes [1]. Read more »»

ProteinTech IFITM Antibodies

ProteinTech IFITM Antibodies

Proteintech antibodies help uncover the role of IFITM proteins in the innate immune response. Proteintech interferon-induced transmembrane (IFITM) antibodies are helping scientists investigate the body’s natural defense mechanisms against viruses such as H1N1 and HIV-1. The antiviral properties of the IFITM proteins had been largely overlooked until late 2009, when the findings of a genome-wide RNA interference screen were published in Cell (1). This study identified the IFITM proteins as potent inhibitors of Influenza A, H1N1, West Nile and Dengue viruses. Following this, a separate group confirmed IFITM2 and IFITM3 antiviral activity against the latter two viruses revealing the role of the two proteins in disrupting virus entry into the cell (2). This last paper featured Proteintech antibodies in its Western blot experiments.

Alzheimer’s disease signaling pathway

Alzheimer’s disease signaling pathway

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a chronic disorder that slowly destroys neurons and causes serious cognitive disability. AD is associated with senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). Amyloid-beta, a major component of senile plaques, has various pathological effects on cell and organelle function. Extracellular amyloid-beta oligomers may activate caspases through activation of cell surface death receptors. Alternatively, intracellular amyloid-beta may contribute to pathology by facilitating tau hyper-phosphorylation, disrupting mitochondria function and triggering calcium dysfunction. To date, genetic studies have revealed four genes that may be linked to autosomal dominant or familial early onset AD (FAD). These four genes include: amyloid precursor protein (APP), presenilin 1 (PS1), presenilin 2 (PS2) and apolipoprotein E (ApoE). All mutations associated with APP and PS proteins can lead to an increase in the production of amyloid-beta peptides, specifically the more amyloidogenic form, amyloid-beta 42. FAD-linked PS1 mutation downregulates the unfolded protein response and leads to vulnerability to ER stress.

Anti-RRM1 antibody

Anti-RRM1 antibody

RRM1 (ribonucleotide reductase subunit MI) protein is the regulatory subunit of the heterodimeric enzyme, ribonucleotide reductase. In humans it is encoded by the RRM1 gene, located on chromosome segment 11p15.5. This region is significant in the development of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as it is typically inactivated during NSCLC oncogenesis. More than 70% patients with NSCLC are diagnosed at the advanced stages of the disease meaning diagnostic and prognostic markers for its improved treatment are essential.
