Rabbit polyclonal antibody to GFAP is a member of the intermediate filament family that is expressed in cells lacking fibronectin. It is a class-III intermediate filament, and is a cell-specific marker. During the development of the central nervous system it distinguishes astrocytes from other glial cells. Consequently, the defect in GFAP causes Alexander disease (ALEXD).
