Histone deacetylation serves as a tag forepigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progressionand developmental events. It is thought to be involved in muscle maturation by repressing thetranscription of myocyte enhancer factors. HDAC7 may play a role in Epstein-Barr virus latency,possibly by repressing the viral BZLF1 gene.
