The genes encoding these microtubuleconstituents belong to the tubulin superfamily, which is composed of six distinct families. Genes fromthe alpha, beta and gamma tubulin families are found in all eukaryotes. The alpha and beta tubulinsrepresent the major components of microtubules, while gamma tubulin plays a critical role in thenucleation of microtubule assembly. There are multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes, which arehighly conserved among species. Tubulin A1A encodes alpha tubulin (a-Tubulin) and is highly similarto mouse and rat Tuba1 gene.
