It is a selective facilitator of 5-HT (serotonin) uptake in vitro and in vivo. It attenuates glutamate release and modulates the function of the AMPA receptor. Tianeptine also acts as an agonist of the micro-opioid receptor (EC50s = 194 and 641nM for human and mouse receptors, respectively).
