Retham™ Cryoplatelets by Prolytix provide convenient access to functional human platelets, helping researchers reduce donor variability and simplify platelet-based studies across a range of functional assays.
Access to functional human platelets can be a significant challenge for laboratories. Fresh donor platelets require donor recruitment and collection, introduce donor-to-donor variability, and can make it difficult to maintain consistent experimental conditions.
Retham™ Cryoplatelets (product #RET-PLT) by Prolytix provide a convenient, standardized source of functional human platelets designed to support platelet research without the logistical challenges of fresh donor material.
Retham™ Cryoplatelets are cryopreserved human platelets derived from healthy donors and pooled from three blood group O donors per lot. Following thawing, the platelets retain functional responses across multiple commonly used platelet assay formats.
Cryoplatelets have demonstrated responses to a broad range of established agonists, including:
This broad agonist responsiveness allows researchers to incorporate cryopreserved platelets into a variety of established experimental workflows.
Retham™ Cryoplatelets have demonstrated activity in granule release and aggregation assays (Figure 1), including antibody-mediated activation through the FcGRIIa (CD32) pathway.

They also support platelet procoagulant activity (Figure 2). Thrombin Generation assays and Thromboelastography demonstrated robust thrombin generation and clot formation, highlighting their utility for research involving platelet-driven coagulation.
Cryoplatelets may exhibit differences in activation state and membrane characteristics compared with freshly isolated platelets, making application-specific validation an important consideration.
Retham™ Cryoplatelets are designed to integrate into existing laboratory workflows. A typical workflow involves thawing, washing to remove cryoprotectant, resuspending the platelets in an appropriate activation buffer, and exposing them to the selected agonist before functional analysis.
This approach gives laboratories greater flexibility while reducing dependence on fresh donor collections.
Retham™ Cryoplatelets are suited for a range of platelet-focused research applications, including:

For laboratories seeking greater consistency and convenience in platelet research, Retham™ Cryoplatelets offer a practical alternative to fresh donor-dependent workflows. Their ability to retain multiple platelet functions following cryopreservation supports reproducible and scalable research across a range of applications.
